summer is the season of health! the earth is alive and fruitful and we partake of her bounty.

this summer I have swum in the ocean, hiked in the forest, tended my garden, visited the organic farmers' market and cooked delicious vegetables. I have meditated at the sultry shore and on the shady porch. I have read and painted, listened to music and the songs of birds. I have tried to nurture me so that when I go back to teaching school, I will be strong and filled with energy to pass on to my students.
Ah...summer. Not my favorite because of the heat! I've spent some quality time with my books - The Secret, James VanPraagh's latest, and some meditation instruction. I've gone back to practicing yoga and have turned off the television in favor of some of my favorite new age music. I've added to my "becoming extensive" crystal collection and have studied more about those as well. I've also taken up journaling. I receive daily affirmations that are helping me to focus on more positive things and I've learned to be grateful for all of the good things in my life.
Hi Sheila and Lisa!

I'm happy to say that I have made some healthy changes in my diet by eating more fresh fruits and vegetables and I have also started exercising more.....Mainly walking and bike riding. I have vacationed for a week at the Jersey Shore and I have cleansed my precious crystals and stones in the Ocean and set them out at night under the full Moon. Also I have joined a Yoga class which I enjoy very much and I'm hopeing that all these little changes will benefit me in the days to come.
The main thing I did this summer was STOP SMOKING!! I'm also getting one chiropractic adjustment a week and 1 Swedish massage a month. At the beginning of the summer my roommate and I became vegetarian (but not the kind you don't want to go out to dinner with) and actually followed through since June. I continue to meditate for mental and spiritual health. I've increased my knowledge of healing with crystals. Wow--I've been very healthy........ unless chocolate and Chunky Monkey is unhealthy.

Did I win?????????
hi sheila,

although my ears are not pierced, i would love to enter the contest! so...profile picture posted: done.

healthy things i've done this summer: well, to be quite honest, i've been neglecting my physical body. gym membership card in hand, i can't seem to get me bum to the gym as much as i would like. what's more, my work schedule has been flippity-flopping around...days...nights...fill-in for others here and there, etc...which has taken its toll on me too. knowing this and its effects on my desires and ability to do for my physical body that i want and need, i do try to do other things to at least keep a step ahead of being three steps behind! at home i do fit in some light weight/dumbbell work. i also get a decent work out at my workplace - i'm a chef at a restaurant so that work there is pretty physical. too, when at home or just running about, i'll take a few minutes and do some squats or walk up a steep incline backwards. stretching and meditating have become part of my daily activities too. i remember some time ago i asked someone how to meditate. their response was, "you already know how to meditate." i said, "i do?" "sure!", they said. "do you worry on a daily basis? about paying bills...or getting something done...being somewhere on time...or even driving to work with heavy traffic and/or averting "creative" drivers?" i said, "well, yeah, sure!" their simply reply was, "there! see? if you know how to worry, then you know how to meditate! pretty much the same thing...both require your focus and attention...you decide what you want to focus on." although i'd like to learn deeper meditating techniques, i have found that this advice is quite true. in addition to all this, i do try to eat well...avoid skipping or missing meals...planning or setting aside time in my schedule to sit down...breath...relax...and enjoy this lost "event ritual" we call "dining". so often, many of us neglect this "event" but rather see it as something we need to do in a hurry because of so many reasons: our next class starts in 15 minutes...or the need to get something...anything in the belly and fast because the kids need to be picked up from school and shwooshed off to soccer practice...and the list goes on. although i may not get as many calories as i'd like, i do have a pretty well-rounded appetite and intake of proteins, carbs, grains, fruits, veggies...especially fruits...they're just..."easy"!

as for my spiritual and mental health, well, those 2 areas are topping the charts and beyond. these past 5 months or so, i've been, quite literally, a information junkie...doesn't matter on which topic...i'm a gemini, i love information, i love to share my knowledge and learn from others, i'm intellectually promiscuous and i've been plowing thru books, websites, the world at large, etc etc as if i only had one day to prepare for a galactic quiz! i wish i could have mega-downloads to a memory stick in my brain for future reference! having gobbled up so much information lately, i feel like my brain simply cannot expand or store any more information...sure, i forget some details, but i'm taking much pleasure in the process of having a nodding acquaintance with so many new and exciting things around me...it's like i've been reborn and have a new set of eyes and knowledge to take in and examine the world around me...being able to "connect the dots" from this to that...from ancient history to the world as we see it today...that is something that i've not been aware of in the past and it intrigues me and challenges me. we "gems" love a challenge!

what's more, since having come down this past year with a serious illness/disease, i could use all the help in the health department that i can get...i might even consider piercing my ears just to be able to wear the stones of health!

hope all is well w/ you and yours!

love and light,
johnpatrick911
Being a vegetarian I have a constant healthy diet. And my lifestyle is gentle and I live right by the ocean.

But I think the healthiest thing I have done is surrender to the Goddess Kali and allowed her to remove people from my life who were toxic to me (that is no disrespect to them at all), they act in their truth, I act in mine, and we learn and move on, as it should be.

I ask for many bright blessings for those people for teaching me very valuable lessons and so improving my all over health; physically, mentally, emotionally and right through my subtle bodies...the learning has been invaluably healthful and for that I am truly thankful,

Brightest Blessings,
DD
Hi Sheila,
1.
I cannot post a picture as I do not have a scanner to send you one. Maybe Christine Bartlett has one she can post for me. Your MOM had one at one your workshops last summer. Do you still have it??

2.
As for healthy things:
I am drinking mucho water and quit drinking sodas. Still have to have my morning coffee though!
I am eating more healthy and working on getting rid of some extra weight. HURRAY!!!

One of the healthliest things I have done all summer was go to Montana and breath clean air. Gosh, the air here is just too visible!!

Love to you.
Connie
